| SubCity Projects opened in April of 2004 and closed in June of 2005. During the course of that period, eight artists presented projects and interventions in an original, retired, ornate 1898 lift permanently parked on the eighth floor of the landmark Fine Arts Building, Chicago. | It has since moved to the 10th floor of the former studio of Lorado Taft, sculptor, author and lecturer now occupied by Candida Alvarez, Professor and Artist. Opening in May of 2009, the new space will be a conceptual challenge for the artists who are invited to intervene within the small 6 x 5 x 8 ft alcove space. The new SubCity Projects, adjacent to Alvarez's studio, will be viewable only through a window into the space from the public hallway. |
